'' Profile about Lupita Perez: Bus Operator''
This profile is about Lupita Perez. She is a bus driver. A bus operator is the person who drives the bus, and also the person who is responsible for the passengers and the bus. She works in the transit authority (gov) in Los Angeles. Three years ago she began working as a bus driver thanks to her neighbor who told her that the transit authority was looking for part-time employees. She is 38 years old and a single mom. Before this job she was a teacher’s assistant. She really liked the job, but it did not have a good salary. Being a bus driver was a good opportunity for her and her family. She works between 12 to 13 hours a day and five to six days a week. As she explained, sometimes it’s hard because she has to deal with different people. One day a woman told her that she was getting pay for doing nothing, she also mentions. That people think she is not human, and they treat her like a garbage. Lupita likes this job for several reasons. First the benefits (insure, opportunities, retirement) second, she loves challenge and finally the salary.
I feel so sorry for her because she is not having a good time in her job. I know how it feels because my mom has a similar situation. She works at an airport and like Lupita people think she is not human. She works cleaning, and many times she told me that there are people who see her cleaning the floor and they just don’t care. they just throw the trash in the floor. Lupita and my mom has a very similar situation, but I could not compare myself with them. I want to be a journalist and a journalist has to deal with many people. I can’t imagine people treating me like that. I respect to get respect. From my point of view, I do not think people appreciate their jobs.
